Home Recording - Precious Lord!
Ayolani Hazel Hill was born in Livingstone, Zambia under the "Musiotunya" which means the smoke that thunders. Although brought up in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, she answered the call of the world at the age of eighteen to utilize her broad array of talents for wealth, pleasure and fame.
At the age of twenty years old Ayolani travelled across the continent of Africa. She spent her twenty-first birthday held at gun-point by the military in the middle of the country of Niger. After being escorted to a prison along with other tourists, they all spent
the night in the prison yard. They were released after learning that all tourists had been stopped due to the presence of America's President George Bush who had been there and had now moved on.
Continuing on, the journey ended 11 months later in Vevey, Switzerland.
In 1986 Ayolani was working with the likes of multi-instrumentalist Erdal Kizilkay. Bowie's song "When the Wind Blows," a song from the soundtrack of the film of the same name, was the result of collaboration with Kizilkay, who would work with Bowie in the future, most notably on "The Buddha of Suburbia."
She was associating in Montreux, Switzerland with the attorney, editor and entourage of renowned English rock band, "Queen," whose 1985 "Live Aid" performance was voted the best live rock performance of all time in an industry poll. Ayolani played the music circuit, jamming with the likes of B. B. King (who "Rolling Stone" magazine ranked at number three on its list of the 100
greatest guitarists of all time), "Leroy," who had two songs that have been featured on the TV series "Scrubs," and one on the series "Arrested Development". Promoting her African ancestry, she recorded a compact disk (CD) with the horn section of the man dubbed as "The Godfather of Soul," James Brown, in Dottikon, Switzerland. The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation promoted the CD in 1992, recording a video clip to the title track "Africa Motherla.
Continual solicitations to appear at music conventions were the norm and at MIDEM 1992 she was named the face of the music festival. MIDEM (short for Marché International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale) is the world's largest music industry trade fair, which has been held annually at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, since 1967.
Although Ayolani continued to pursue her career, it was not without strong feelings of apprehension. She felt "the emptiness of a life that seeks in earthly things its highest good," and voiced her feelings of wonderment to her manager that her career depended upon dinner engagements with the directors of record companies. After telling her Manager she was not comfortable dining with anyone, he replied, "Do you want a hit recording and a career?" She concluded that she no longer belonged in the music industry and walked away from it all! The patient, protracted process of the Spirit of God was wooing this wandering daughter of God back to the fold.
Still enjoying doing small gigs, she travelled to America in 1999. While singing at an open microphone one night in New York, she was spontaneously backed up by six-time Grammy Award winner, Toni Braxton's band. Ayolani moved on to Las Vegas the same year that the twenty-four acre, $785 million dollar "Paris Las Vegas" hotel and casino opened. As its name suggests, the theme of "Paris Las Vegas" is the city of Paris in France. Stevie Wonder was the opening act for the main lounge while Ayolani was asked to open the smaller lounge (she sings in the French language). Due to having only a holiday visa the opportunity was forfeited to avoid legal ramifications.
On her journey back to Australia, during a stopover in Taipei, an earthquake hit the city, which caused the airport to split and board her plane and take off earlier. This was a big shock and a calling for change in Ayolani's life. Upon returning to Australia her husband promised to commit to a spiritual and a family lifestyle if she would commit to a marital arrangement. Baptized in December of 1999, Ayolani started a music ministry while her husband took Bible studies.
Three months into the pregnancy with her 4th child, her husband wanted freedom from the bothersome restraints of family life and she was left to fend alone for three and soon to be four children. Wonderful Christian friends were very supportive. Ayolani bought a house and moved into it just two weeks after the birth of her fourth child (a daughter).
Happy in the Lord and in her home with her four children, she sang in prisons and churches and held some large concerts. A year after her baptism the church asked her to head the music department.Ayolani changed her membership to another church. There she trained a choir, and started recording with this group while they did many concerts around Perth.
During this period of her life she studied at the Australian College of Natural Medicine focusing on Massage Therapy, Holistic Counseling, First Aid Administration and Business in Practitioners. Unfulfilled, she decided to use her creative skills in the fashion industry.
After designing a wide range of clothing, Ayolani was selling from her home in practically no time at all. She opened her own boutique to expand her designing label and began jet-setting worldwide to the most beautiful parts of
the globe with some very prominent figures in Perth.
In 2004, after her 40th birthday, which she spent skiing in Switzerland, she decided that her lifestyle was not adequate for her children. Ayolani continued to work her business, sponsor and direct fashion conventions, and in 2006 was the major sponsor for the Natural Bodybuilding Championship.
Her health deteriorated quickly, even losing her eyesight. In desperation she turned to God and began worshiping at a charismatic church on Friday nights, at a Seventh Day Adventist church on Saturdays and a first day church on Sundays.
She was meeting with Christian women groups for daytime prayer, she was going to prayer sessions at night but she was not at peace; all of this activity brought no completeness in her life.
One Sunday morning she walked into the Metro Church and when the band started to play irreverent, profane music, Ayolani's heart felt torn and she found herself saying, "Lord I know this is not right."
After the sermon that morning she was invited to brunch with a terrible sense of not belonging. After the sermon when the food platter came around and she was disarrayed by the pork-based ingredients in the snacks, and at that point she knew this was her final calling from the Lord to seriously consider what she was doing. When the pastor and his administrators came to the brunch and asked all of the guests for church membership commitments, Ayolani without being critical of their religion expressed her conviction that she knew Seventh Day Adventism was where she belonged. The pastoral team then suggested a meeting with the pastor's wife whom they believed to be theologically distinguished.
The following Monday she called Pastor John of the Seventh Day Adventist church to ask him for a phone number and he told her that an American evangelist, Pastor and Evangelist Maurice Berry, would be speaking at his church, and he asked her, "Why don't you come and hear him?" Ayolani took her mother with her and she was overwhelmed with the dynamics of the speaker and the content of his message! Subsequent meetings revealed his depth of understanding the methods of prophetic interpretation and overall understanding of the Bible which in her opinion "exceeds expectations of a pastor!" She said his method of creating interest in his sermons has a drawing power that leaves his listeners clamoring for him to go on. Ayolani made a firm commitment that night to follow Jesus unreservedly!
She later went shopping to purchase clothing fit for a daughter of the Most High and asked about taking classes to broaden her knowledge of the distinct truths of the remnant church and its health message. After learning that the Berry's would be conducting meetings across the continent in Sydney she unhesitatingly purchased a ticket to Sydney.
When she returned to Perth her radical conversion was apparent to all and soon she was offered employment as a conference Bible worker. She started her own ministry and moved onto a beautiful five acre property to follow more fully God's daily, unfolding plan for her future.
She met her husband to be, Artist Stephen Drummond-Hill on New Year's Eve of 2009. Being Buddhist certainly did not deter Ayolani from this very talented Artist, she even accepted an invitation to spend a week at a Buddhist centre. She then returned the hospitality and invited him to the SDA Church, which to her surprise he enjoyed and continued to visit together most weeks.
Stephen asked Ayolani to move into his home 4 months later. She explained the SDA way and asked if he would accept to have couple counseling first. He seemed a bit surprised, and suggested counseling usually happens when things are going
wrong in a relationship, however accepted when he realised how serious Ayolani really was.
After 9 months of counseling, which Stephen found to be very intelligent, weekly worship at the SDA Church, a commitment to read the bible daily for a year, 40 days of All Power with Leo Schreven, Prophecy seminar with Maurice Berry, Stephen asked Ayolani to marry him. They were married on the 11th December 2010, He was baptized, and Ayolani rebaptised in February of 2011. They are now preparing to fly to California to study at AFCOE, which is very exciting. Stephen has committed to becoming an Evangelist, Ayolani a Health Evangelist and they have started a Ministry "Gospel for Our Times" which is a project helping build up orphanages in Zimbabwe and Bolivia.
"My husband and I are on a mission and our Ministry is called Gospel for Our Times". We held a concert on Saturday the 23rd of July, which was our farewell and launch of our Ministry.
I am no longer seeking to shine among the earthly stars on a planet doomed to destruction; I am now radiant with the Source of light amidst the gross darkness of a world tainted by sin, and she will soon "shine as the brightness of the firmament "in a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God."
"When Satan leaves you alone, that's when you have to worry" said Pastor John to me one day. I am so pleased to let you know Satan is on our case on a daily basis, but God is with us and gets us through each hurdle no matter what.
Thank you God
